JOHN FORBES (Founder) developed AIDS in 2001, after testing positive for HIV in 1995. After facing his own mortality and accountability to Jesus Christ, he soon returned to the foundations of his faith. John put love into action by going overseas to South Africa to help with the AIDS pandemic. With the guidance of his late friend and brother Derek Liebenberg, he was introduced to many pastors and leaders and began to share his story of LIVING WITH AIDS. Over time they were able to remove stigma and bring awareness.

In an effort to reach into infected communities, the concept of a festival entailed wherein John would combine his background in theatre and talent for singing with his story of hope, to educate, exhort, and empower. The goal was to use the local church to serve the HIV/AIDS community. At the first festival, a woman named Trisha who just lost her child to AIDS, came forward for prayer. 2 weeks later she lost her own battle with the disease. John found himself standing in the very same spot singing a song of comfort at her funeral.

With over 40 million people living with HIV/AIDS, the reality that countless individuals could face eternity without Christ put a whole new spin on this disease. Not only must the practical needs be addressed, but also the spiritual responsibility for Christians is staggering! As a result of this revelation in 2003, AGAPE, INC., INTERNATIONAL was formed. John desires for the church of Jesus Christ to share the hope of the gospel with those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS and to serve them in both word and deed.
